Session 6. Progress on Strategic Projects


Major strategic projects can define the future of a community and even an entire
region. But major projects can also present some difficult challenges along the way
and be controversial at times. Major projects from across Canada will be presented in
the IGNITE format*, showing the challenges and solutions that such projects present.

Note: the “iGNite” style of presentation consists of 20 slides at 30 seconds per slide for a total of 10 minutes
per presentation to stimulate ideas and innovation in a fast paced session. under this approach, presenters
are restricted to sharing their story through only 20 slides that automatically advance every 30 seconds.

Growing by Leaps and Bounds


In 2009, we had maybe 125 registered active  passengers and truthfully, We probably applied an enthusiastic definition of "active."  To gain five new passengers in a 12 month period was considered tremendous and unsustainable growth.

Flash forward a couple of years and we are now growing by 12 passengers each month. In the past 15 months, we have added 200 registrations

One implication of this growth is that we have had to restrict (ration) the amount of transportation we can provide to a passenger. In order to maintain availability of seats for medical trips or other occasional demand uses, we have had to limit the number of daily trips we provide in a month. This impedes access to employment or vocational needs where someone must travel everyday. 

At the moment we do not have the resources to be all things to all passengers.
